Sometimes called “diamond lanes” or “car pool lanes,” high occupancy vehicle lanes are typically located in the center of the roadway. Time of day and vehicle occupancy can determine the use of the lanes by motorists. Metropolitan areas tend to limit the use of these lanes to motorcycles, buses and vehicles carrying two or more people during the peak travel periods of the day. |
